Highly popular with visitors from the colder Northern countries of Europe, it has a beautiful coastline and some of Turkey’s most impressive nightlife. Situated is on what is known as The Turquoise Coast, Bodrum faces the Greek island of Kos out across the water where the Mediterranean and the Aegean meet. Bodrum is served by Bodrum airport, a facility that is thirty minutes away by local transport transfer.
Much of the life of the city occurs around the Bodrum harbour area where locals and tourists mingle amongst the bars, taverns, cafes and restaurants, situated within the shade of the historical castle of St. Peter, located at the far southeast entrance to the Harbour. The great walls of the city, stretching four and a half kilometres in length, are currently being restored to their former glory. Although the local beach is not the largest on this particular coast, it is wisely used. Once the sun-beds and sun-seekers are packed away for the day, the local restaurants place their tables and chairs out on the beach! Local transportation is economical and plentiful, with reliable taxis and buses servicing all parts of the city.

The temperature in Bodrum is very agreeable, with more than six months of sunshine every year and very little rain, no wonder it was invaded so many times in its history! The cooler months are a satisfying seventeen degrees Celsius, with the summer months seeing scorching forty-four degrees Celsius tops, and the sea temperature never dipping below eighteen degrees. With the sea at that temperature all the year round, there is no excuse for failing to take the plunge!
The area is a treat for the tourist from home or abroad and is equally popular with Turkish and foreign visitors. The local attractions for tourists include St Peters Castle, which features the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, with shipwrecks dating back to the 14th Century and beyond. The Castle itself was once a fortress to protect the Christian Crusaders from attack, but this proved fruitless as the castle has remained unmolested for all of its years.
