Much of the life of the city occurs around the Bodrum harbour area where locals and tourists mingle amongst the bars, taverns, cafes and restaurants, situated within the shade of the historical castle of St. Peter, located at the far southeast entrance to the Harbour. The great walls of the city, stretching four and a half kilometres in length, are currently being restored to their former glory. Although the local beach is not the largest on this particular coast, it is wisely used. Once the sun-beds and sun-seekers are packed away for the day, the local restaurants place their tables and chairs out on the beach! Local transportation is economical and plentiful, with reliable taxis and buses servicing all parts of the city.

The temperature in Bodrum is very agreeable, with more than six months of sunshine every year and very little rain, no wonder it was invaded so many times in its history! The cooler months are a satisfying seventeen degrees Celsius, with the summer months seeing scorching forty-four degrees Celsius tops, and the sea temperature never dipping below eighteen degrees.
