Didim Property

Didim is the name of both a beautiful little town and an entire district on the south-westerly coast of Turkey. Didim property - aside from Didim itself, includes a number of other small towns such as Altinkum, Yenihisar, Mavi Ehir and Akbük which are within the district. The resort of Didim has no airport of its own, but it is served by three other airports in neighbouring areas with Bodrum at 95kms (60 miles), Dalaman at 120 kms (75 miles) and Izmir at 150 kms (just over 90 miles away). All of these airports have transport routes to other parts of the country and one would be surprised by the splendour and beauty of the countryside views on the road from the various airports to Didim. For the adventurous, it is possible to drive from various points in Europe, and there are reliable and regular train services linking Turkey’s larger cities.

Around fifteen years ago, well-to-do Turks began investing in property in Didim, including holiday homes in the surrounding areas. This lead to an increase in interest from foreign investors and whilst the property prices are still reasonable, they do continue to climb. Didim is only a small resort, but with its coastal location, glorious sandy beaches and excellent water-sport facilities, it’s not difficult to see why Didim property remains so popular with local and foreign visitors.

During the summer, Didim’s temperatures soar to around a tan-tastic thirty degrees to a low of twelve Celsius in the winter. This makes it a far more clement retreat at any time of the year for those of us who come from colder, rainier parts of Northern Europe.

The only major historical point of interest in Didim itself, is the fabulous Temple of Apollo. According to legend both Artemis and Apollo were born in Didim, although the Temple does in fact date back to before the Greek colonisation of this area of Turkey. If after a long day of walking amongst the ruins of the Temple, you want to enjoy some local cuisine, head to the market square, where temptingly traditional feasts await you at the various sumptuous restaurants. After your meal, why not stroll along the strand or take advantage of the opportunity to take a drink in one of the local bars or taverns.
