Side Property
Situated on the Turkish Riviera, the ancient city of Side (pronounced See-Deh or Sea-Day) is known for its historical Hellenistic (Ancient Greek) ruins, its many dazzling fine sandy beaches and the rows and rows of high quality hotels that face outwards to the glistening azure sea. This timeless, upmarket resort is a highly popular tourist destination with both local Turks and Europeans. The area is served by nearby Antalya International airport, which has several international flights per week but many daily flights arrive from domestic locations around Turkey, giving a choice of air routes into the area. A simple transfer is possible at the airport; Side is seventy kilometres away by local transport, minibus, taxi or privately hired chauffeur-driven car.

Side effortlessly blends the ancient world with the contemporary. Modern facilities that are required to continue economic growth and ancient ruins that indicate the past, on which the present is built, seem to fit together effortlessly to create a relaxed resort, with a history and a future. If you prefer to unwind in the evening with a drink and a dance, the local disco clubs and bars are found around the harbour area, like most resort towns in Turkey. For those with a passion for more adventurous nightlife, one can look for the OXYD, a castle-like establishment just out of town, which has two floors of music and an open-air swimming pool, if you feel the need to strip off and cool down!
From fast food to the gourmet palette, Side has something for every taste, the restaurants, most specialising in fish (the price for which must be haggled over with the staff it seems). Again, the restaurants are centred on the waterfront area and can cope with most European taste buds, alongside giving the bold eater a treat or two.
Temperatures like much of the Aegean/Mediterranean coast are staggeringly warm all year around. The spring is agreeably warm, the summer baking hot, the autumn pleasantly warm again and the winter warm with cooling showers. One could sun bathe all year round, which makes Side, a place to visit at any time of the year. Tourists visiting in December might see some facilities closed, but the weather, standard of hospitality and food would not diminish at all.
For those who enjoy the historical aspects of the city, there is an almost endless amount of exploring to be done. The ruins, vast theatre, fountain and ancient baths can all be visited at your own pace, or you can take part in an ‘Ancient Tour’ of the local sites of the historical interest.
Property in Side
Like many of the areas of the Southwest coast of Turkey, the property market is reasonably inexpensive if you know where to look, however property in Side can tend to be higher than many other resorts due to its already developed tourism, facilities and close proximity to the golf resorts of Belek . If you are looking for a special summer home, or somewhere to escape to when Northern Europe temperatures drop, a two storey villa with dramatic views of the Taurus mountains would fetch around one hundred and thirty thousand pounds. Small apartments in Side start at thirty five thousand pounds, whilst small villas can be purchased for sixty thousand pounds. Whatever your budget, beautiful Side has many property options available.
