The Resort of Kalkan
Kalkan in Turkey is a stunningly beautiful resort backed by mountains and trees
Although Kalkan
is mainly a harbour town, beaches in the area are gorgeous with crystal
clear waters and carrying a blue flag award. The Dolmus bus runs frequent
from the town centre to Kaputas Beach - a lovely sandy cove nestled at the
foot of a striking mountain gorge. Patara Beach, is a beautiful stretch
of sand backed by dunes voted one of the top beaches in the world by Times
Online in 2005.
There are also a number of beach clubs such as the Kalamar Beach club which offers gardens, sunbeds, restaurants, swimming and a whole host of water sports. The Kalkan Travel Guide offers information on all the things to do and see in the area.

Kalkan is a small resort and fishing town on the beautiful Turquoise Coast of Turkey. This historic town is untouched by mass tourism and remains a charming and unspoilt place where many visitors’ who have discovered this enchanting place return year after year.
More sophisticated than the usual Turkish resorts, Kalkan will attract the kind of visitor who enjoys Tuscany or the Dordogne. With excellent restaurants and accommodation to suite every pocket Kalkan is a must for the discerning tourist. There is more than one hundred different restaurants serving from traditional Turkish cuisine to Chinese or Indian food, most have rooftop dining terraces, which offer fantastic views of the town and harbour.
Alfresco dining is a way of life here, sit in one of the harbour restaurants
and watch the fisherman bring in their catch for the day or in the evening
sit and watch the sun go down.
Narrow cobbled streets twist and wide around the town passing shops and
little whitewashed houses down to the harbour where yachts and gulets are
moored, there is no better place to sit and watch the world go by.
Kalkan has no beaches; however there are beach clubs where sun beds and
umbrellas are arranged on bathing platforms, along with a restaurant serving
snacks and drinks. Taking a dip
into the crystal clear water of the Mediterranean is via steps straight
into the sea. If you prefer the beach a short dolmus ride away is the beautiful
Kapatus Beach with white shingle sand.
Various excursions are available if you can drag yourself away from your
sun bed and the fantastic views Kalkan offers. Why not have a days sailing
around in a crewed gulet (a traditional Turkish sailing boat), take a tour
of the many local villages or visit some of the many ancient sites.
Kalkan has something to offer everyone and with flights available from Bournemouth
on a Monday with a two and half hour transfer time and still a non-Euro
zone why not sample this magical place for yourself!
