Akbuk, meaning white bay, is an area of great beauty surrounded by olive groves, pine forests, mountains and a lovely calm bay with crystal clear waters. Not so well known, or as lively as its neighbour Altinkum, the town offers a peaceful and quiet location, but still with its fair share of bars, restaurants and shops.

Located on the south west Aegean, Akbuk was originally a small fishing village and a favourite holiday destination for Turkish city dwellers, who come to relax and take advantage of the fantastic sunsets and stunning scenery. It is also one of the healthiest places in Turkey, with the lowest humidity and the highest oxygen ratio, and with local fishmen selling their daily catch of the day in the harbour, and the Friday market for fresh fruit and vegetables, you are able to eat heathily as well. The harbour is also where you can find a variety of boat trips to nearby beaches and coves, or a ferry to the busy resort of Altinkum.
The dolmus bus runs regularly to the nearby town of Didim and the resort of Altinkum, which will cost less than £1 and take 20 minutes. Transfer to Bodrum airport takes just under an hour, but the proposed road which will cut straight through the mountain, will reduce this to just 25 minutes. Other local attractions include the Temple of Apollo, the Aquapark, or there are coach trips available to the ancient Greek city of Ephesus, Pamukkale (known in Turkey as 'cotton castle', the eight wonder of the world), or the famous Milas market.
Akbuk property consists of only low rise properties due to building restrictions for the area, which is mainly comprised of small complex's near the beach or idyllic detached villas. There is also a reasonable amount of front line, or sea view land available - perfect for building your own dream property.
Yesiltepe, meaning Green Hills, is an area situated between the 6km tree lined bay of Akbuk and the tranquil Lake Bafa. It is here that many expats are taking up permanent residence or building stunning holiday homes. Property in this area consists only of detached villas on large plots surrounded by beautiful countryside yet only 5 minutes drive to the beach.

Lake Bafa covers an area of 7,000 hectares and is a listed bird sanctuary, where over 255 species of bird can be found. The lake is surrounded by the mystic Latmos Mountains which rise up to 1400 meters and are popular for hiking and trekking tours for the remains of the Byzantine monasteries and hermit caves that can be found on its slopes. On the far side of Akbuk, this area offers building plots for under £10,000, some with lovely views over the lake.
